You are forgiven
When you understand what sin really is, and that you have done something that qualifies. The mere apology for something that you understand how and what was wrong about it. It is enough to forgive.
For forgiveness, is an acknowledgement of the understanding that it was wrong. It is also the human thing to do, as what was done, is done. It's not something you would expect to happen again, because the understanding leads to change in the way we treat one another, as well as we treat ourselves.
Ask for forgiveness and you will receive forgiveness. Seek forgiveness and you will find it.
It is okay, you are forgiven.
-Edit: Now the rest of the story-
However, there's a problem. If you were to do something that requires forgiveness. That is in order for your reality to exist the way it does, means that you have to do something that would require forgiveness.
It's kind of messed up.
Your reality is a result of every good and bad decision that leads you to the moment now when you are reading what I have written here. You, for some reason, had to be a bad person, to understand good and bad, and then seek to resolve the reason why you did the bad thing to begin with.
What point is forgiveness, if you needed to do something to be forgiven for? It is something that was specifically given for you to do in this lifetime. If you knew that was the point ahead of time, would you still have done it? Could you have sought forgiveness, before your actions?
Sure, you could try.
Let's be honest, it wouldn't work that way. The "action leading to resolution" paradigm is a function of linear time. A improper definition of time, in terms of dimensions.
It's like saying draw a line in ink, and as you finish, you realize that you needed to throw a loop into the line. Oops! No, you'd throw the loop in anyway, and then apologize for doing it.
So why do we do bad things at all? Are we really bad people, or are we good people? Are we either?
What causes bad people to do what they do? Is it because of some societal insufficiency? Is it even a choice? Or is it a matter of what is important in your life?
Let me just say this. It has to do with where you placed your focus. If that is in material things, then you either fight for whatever piece you can get from it, or you horde it as much as possible. And when your focus is in the material things, then it blinds you to the big picture. A greater understanding. No, you don't see it, because long after you buried yourself in the "things" you got, you still have a hunger for more. You're blinded by it. You'll never see any way out, until you get to the point where you ask yourself "Have you had enough yet?"
Don't get me wrong when I say this applies to religion as well. Have you had enough? What will it take you until you are satisfied? Can you even answer these questions?
Everything is purposeful.
